5 EHR Vendors Announce Plans for Total Interoperability by Summer

Staff -

A group of electronic health vendors plan to implement an interoperable patient data exchange as early as this summer, according to a Forbes report.

Cerner, McKesson, Allscripts, athenahealth and Greenway — all CommonWell Health Alliance members — have embedded code in their software allowing healthcare providers to access and share patient data, according to the report.

The announcement of interoperability plans follows shortly after the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology released a projected timeline of reaching interoperability by 2024. However, the CommonWell Health Alliance members may achieve that goal much sooner if the rollout goes as planned.
