44% of MU payments in 2015 concentrated in 8 states

Staff -

As of Sept. 30, CMS had paid more than $31 billion in meaningful use incentives to eligible providers and hospitals. An analysis of CMS data by Health IT Interoperability found almost half of those dollars were concentrated in just eight states.

These eight states all received more than $1 billion in incentive dollars, and two of them — California and Texas — received more than $2 billion.

  • California: $2.64 billion
  • Texas: $2.19 billion
  • Florida: $1.86 billion
  • New York: $1.82 billion
  • Illinois: $1.46 billion
  • Pennsylvania: $1.42 billion
  • Ohio: $1.31 billion
  • Michigan: $1.05 billion

The report indicates these results may not be entirely surprising, as these are the most populous states, with the exception of Michigan, which is the 10th most populous state.
