391,000 IT jobs added to US workforce in December: 4 details

The high demand for IT workers spurred job growth in the tech sector in December, with U.S. employers adding about 391,000 new jobs, according to a Jan. 8 Wall Street Journal report.

Four details:

1. The unemployment rate for tech jobs during December was 3 percent compared to the 6.7 percent overall unemployment rate, according to IT trade group CompTIA's recent analysis, the Journal reports.

2. More than 90 percent of corporate tech leaders said they plan to either fill IT vacancies or create new IT positions in 2021, according to staffing firm Robert Half International's recent global survey of 3,000 tech executives.

3. Job growth within the tech sector is expected to occur among cybersecurity, cloud and data or database management positions.

4. As of the end of December, U.S. employers posted more than 200,000 job openings for IT workers, according to the report.
