Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner is holding its Cerner Health Conference 2015 from Oct. 11 to Oct. 14.

Here are three key things to know about the meeting, according to The Kansas City Star.

1. More than 14,000 people gathered at the meeting on Sunday to hear discussions on several health IT issues.

2. The conference will focus on consumerism as a rising trend in healthcare. "The consumer is going to become much more powerful in healthcare because they're paying for the bill. Three years ago, consumers paid 15 percent of health care costs. Today, they're paying 25 percent. Three years from now, 38 percent will come out of the consumer's pocket," said Cerner CEO Zane Burke at the conference, according to the report.

3. Interoperability will also be a central point of discussion. Just last week, Cerner announced 75 of its clients across 1,200 provider sites use CommonWell Health Alliance's interoperability services. Cerner is a founding member of CommonWell.
