23andMe CEO joins $45M funding for women's health tech startup

Maven, a digital health startup providing access to virtual fertility, pregnancy and postpartum services, announced on Feb. 19 the close of a $45 million Series C round that included participation from 23andMe CEO Anne Wojcicki.

Ms. Wojcicki joined actors Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and Mindy Kaling as individual strategic investors in the funding round. Other contributors include Sequoia Capital, Oak HC/FT and the Female Founders Fund.

According to the announcement, the $45 million fundraise is among the largest for a woman-led reproductive health company. Maven was founded by CEO Kate Ryder in 2014 and offers a family benefits platform through which employers and health plans can provide new and future parents with telehealth services and financial guidance.

"We believe that women's and family health is not just a vertical, but the core of a functional healthcare system," Ms. Ryder said in the announcement. "With this latest round of funding, Maven will continue to double down and invest in the long term to drive meaningful, sustained change."
