21st Century Oncology faces 4 lawsuits following data breach

Staff -

Earlier this month, 21st Century Oncology, based in Fort Meyers, Fla., reported a data breach that occurred in October 2015. Now, the cancer treatment center is facing four class action lawsuits filed in a U.S. District Court, according to a Bradenton Herald report.

The breach occurred when an unauthorized third party allegedly accessed the center's database, which contains patient names, Social Security numbers, physician names, diagnoses, treatment information and insurance information. The plaintiffs are seeking $15 million in relief, according to the report.

This is not the first legal problem 21st Century Oncology has run into this year. The cancer center has agreed to pay the federal government $34.7 million to resolve false claims allegations.
