2 California medical centers sign onto HIE

Julie Spitzer -

Two California medical centers joined the Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services to improve care coordination for underserved populations, according to the LA Times.

LANES allows participating and eligible hospital staff to access a database of information related to the state's Medicaid  and uninsured patients. The nonprofit's health information exchange platform uses patient data from standard healthcare protocols, which include EMRs from local hospitals.

The group will provide its platform to Glendale (Calif.) Adventist Medical Center and Los Angeles-based White Memorial Medical Center — both part of the Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health system — for the next two years, according to the two contracts.

"It's about making information available more broadly so that it can be used at the point of care to provide better, faster and less duplicative care," Sharon Correa, Adventist Health CIO, told the LA Times.
