The following healthcare data breaches were reported on Becker's Hospital Review within the past month.

1. Owensboro (Ky.) Health notified patients of a potential data breach after the FBI alerted the health system of suspicious activity on the health system's network at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville, Ky. Read more

2. Cincinnati-based UC Health notified more than 1,000 patients of a data breach after learning emails containing protected health information were inadvertently sent to an incorrect email address. Read more

3. A former employee of Children's Medical Clinics of East Texas, based in Kaufman, improperly accessed up to 16,000 patient health records and showed them to a third party. Read more

4. Madison, Wis.-based insurance company Dean Health reported a breach affecting 960 patients after documents sent to a bank were lost in the mail. Read more

5. Pasadena, Calif.-based Huntington Medical Research Institutes reported two separate data breaches in October, one of which affected 4,300 patients. Read more

6. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services notified 1,615 individuals their protected health information may have been compromised after an email containing personal information of the Medicaid recipients was not encrypted before being sent. Read more

7. Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center, an affiliate of NYU School of Medicine in New York, notified more than 1,500 patients their protected health information may have been compromised after a laptop connected to an EMG machine was reported missing. Read more

8. An unauthorized Internet connection potentially compromised 11,000 records at El Paso, Texas-based Emergence Health Network. Read more

9. Greeneville, S.C.-based Bon Secours St. Francis Health System fired an employee after learning the employee inappropriately accessed patient records and allegedly filed claims with other employees' health insurance companies. Read more

10. Little Rock, Ark.-based Neprhopath, a nephrology lab, notified 1,260 patients of a potential data breach after a staff member inadvertently sent protected health information to a vendor in an unsecured email. Read more
