10 most interesting health IT partnerships this week

Federal agencies, hospitals and health systems teamed up with health IT companies this week to develop new initiatives, technologies and innovative projects.

Here are 10 of the most interesting health IT partnerships that were announced this week, as reported by Becker's Hospital Review.

1. Physicians at Edward–Elmhurst (Ill.) Health now have a new tool to explain diagnoses to patients, thanks to a partnership with Outcome Health.

2. The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research partnered with 23andMe to establish a cohort of patients to participate in research related to Parkinson's disease.

3. The COPD Foundation, pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, software provider Jvion and Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger teamed up to help patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease avoid readmissions.

4. Medhost and Clinical Computer Systems joined forces to integrate solutions for Cibola General Hospital in Grants, N.M.  

5. One Drop, a digital health company focused on diabetes care management, entered into a data sharing collaboration with Fitbit.

6. The federal government awarded cybersecurity and IT solutions provider Merlin International $80 million in the third quarter of 2017 to strengthen cybersecurity efforts in healthcare.

7. Nvidia expanded its Deep Learning Institute, which helps equip tens of thousands of students, developers and data scientists with critical skills to apply artificial intelligence, in a new partnership with Booz Allen Hamilton and deeplearning.ai.

8. Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas HealthCare Systems enabled Amazon Alexa to tell patients where the nearest hospital or urgent care facility is and what the estimated wait time may be.

9. The Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative, a national trade association representing health information exchanges, added 4medica as a strategic business and technology partner.

10. GrandPad, a tablet-based solution designed specifically for seniors, teamed up with Lyft to provide them easy, convenient car rides.
