1 in 5 workers has faced negative action over digital miscommunication

Digital communications like emails, slack channels or g-chats are stressing out workers, who worry about the potential for misinterpretation and the consequences of it, according to a new report from workplace technology company Loom.

The survey conducted by Loom asked more than 3,000 full-time workers about their relationship with workplace technology and some of their frustrations.

It found that digital miscommunication is a major issue in the workplace. Ninety-one percent of respondents said that they had a message misunderstood or misinterpreted at work, with 20 percent of respondents saying that such misinterpretation led to a demotion, reprimand or even being fired. These communication tools are also causing stress and worry, with 47 percent of respondents saying they overthink work emails and messages they send and 62 percent of workers saying the misinterpretation of such messages affects their mental health.
