1 in 3 patients lack easy access to medical records: 6 things to know

Alia Paavola -

One in three patients can not easily access their medical records, despite 97 percent of consumers being familiar with cloud technology, according to a report published by Ambra Health, a medical data and image management company.

The report, titled "Era of Change: Today's Healthcare Consumer," presents the results of an online survey of 1,136 U.S. consumers.

Here are six things to know about the findings

1. One third of patients lacked an easy method to access their medical records. Of the respondents that could access their medical records easily, only 50 percent of them could access their medical records online via their provider.

2. A majority, 67 percent, of respondents said that ease of record access and scheduling were key drivers when selecting a provider.

3. Nearly all, 97 percent, of respondents are familiar with cloud-based technology.

4. Seventy-seven percent of healthcare consumers trust or are not concerned by cloud technology.

5. Seventy-three percent of patients indicated they would prefer all of their medical data to be accessible online.

6. When moving imaging services, such as CT scans, MRIs or X-rays, from one healthcare provider to another, 57 percent of consumers had to utilize CDs rather than online image share or a provider transfer.
