The health insurer’s total operating revenue totaled approximately $15.2 billion in the third quarter of 2011, an increase of $846.6 million, or 5.9 percent, from $14.3 billion in the third quarter of 2010. WellPoint officials said the increase in revenue was driven by “premium increases designed to cover overall cost trends and membership growth in the senior and federal employee program businesses.”
Additionally, WellPoint added 169,000 members to its medical enrollment, due in part to its growth in several businesses and its acquisition of CareMore Health Group.
