Vermont health system raises $24M

Bennington, Vt.-based Southwestern Vermont Health Care announced July 22 that $24 million has been raised over the last four years toward the goal of $25 million for its Vision 2020 Decade of Transformation Capital Campaign.

The multiphase project will expand the hospital's emergency department and front entrance and construct the new Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center.

Vision 2020 Public Phase Committee Co-Chairman David Newell said they are asking community members to lend their support to invest in the next generation of care.

"The goal is $1 million, and we hope to raise this amount in six months. We’re on the cusp of a new and exciting future for the hospital and everyone in the tri-state area who turns to SVHC for care."

The emergency department is the oldest emergency facility in the state of Vermont and was designed to see 12,000 patients a year in the mid-1990s. Instead, it served about 25,000 patients in 2021.
