UCLA Health to establish health sciences learning center with $20M gift

Alia Paavola -

Los Angeles-based UCLA Health Sciences received a $20 million pledge from Eugene and Maxine Rosenfeld to help establish a health sciences learning center equipped with simulation training capabilities.

The health sciences learning center, which will house the UCLA Simulation Center, will also create a new home for the Center for Advanced Surgical and Interventional Technology.

The Eugene and Maxine Rosenfeld Hall, named in honor of the donors, will provide physicians-in-training access to computer simulations, virtual reality and high-tech mannequins to serve as "virtual patients." Upon completion, Rosenfeld hall will be one of the few facilities in the U.S. to combine mock clinical experiences, surgical simulation and interprofessional emergency and team training in one location.

"This transformative investment in the continuous training of future and practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals will prepare them to meet the challenges of modern medicine for decades to come," said John Mazziotta, MD, PhD, vice chancellor of UCLA Health Sciences and CEO of UCLA Health.
