Trinity Health to relocate at least 120 Iowa billing jobs

Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health will relocate between 120 and 130 billing jobs from Mason City, Iowa, to Columbus, Ohio, in March 2020.

The jobs are Trinity Health positions serving the Trinity Health-owned hospitals of West Des Moines, Iowa-based MercyOne, a network with more than 450 patient care location and more than 20,000 employees.

MercyOne spokesperson Gregg Lagan told the Globe Gazette the affected Trinity Health billing employees have all been offered the opportunity to relocate to one of the new service centers, apply for other jobs within MercyOne or Trinity Health or accept severance pay.

The change comes as Trinity Health is centralizing billing at centers in Kentwood, Mich.; Farmington Hills, Mich.; and Columbus, Ohio, according to the newspaper.

Trinity Health said its immediate and long-term plans are to meet patients' expectations for a simpler experience by making charges, improving cost and price transparency and simplifying the billing and payment process.

The health system said the plans also align with Trinity Health's shift to a standard EHR, a transition that is already started to enable more care coordination and collaboration between Trinity Health physicians — and provide uncomplicated access to patients' complete health and billing records.

Combined, the two initiatives will affect nearly 1,700 employees at Trinity Health's 94 hospitals and more than 100 care sites.
