Tower Health cuts jobs at 2 hospitals

West Reading, Pa.-based Tower Health is eliminating jobs at Pottstown (Pa.) Hospital and Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia, according to WHYY.

Fifty-five unit secretaries at the two hospitals will lose their jobs, according to WHYY, which cited information from SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania. Tower Health is also eliminating a part-time patient greeter position and having nurse assistants take over the duties of employees who sit with high-needs patients.

Tower Health did not respond to WHYY's request for the total number of workers affected. A spokesperson for the system said affected employees could apply for a newly created position.

"We will transition as many impacted staff as possible into the new Unit Support Coordinator position or to other positions at the hospitals or within Tower Health, depending upon their job qualifications," the spokesperson told WHYY.
