1. CMS' proposed outpatient payment rule for 2019: 10 things to know
CMS released its 2019 Medicare Outpatient Prospective Payment System proposed rule July 25, which calls for site-neutral payments and would make changes to the 340B program.

2. Proposed physician fee changes credit negative for academic med centers, some rural hospitals, Moody's says
While the proposed changes to CMS' physician fee schedule for 2019 would be credit positive for community hospitals, the changes would be credit negative for academic medical centers and certain rural hospitals, according to a report by Moody's Investors Service.

3. Georgia hospital allegedly involved in lab billing scheme closes
Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega, Ga., closed July 26, making it the seventh rural hospital in Georgia to close since 2010.

4. CMS gives $925M payment boost to post-acute providers
CMS issued final rules July 31 that increase payments to inpatient rehabilitation facilities and skilled-nursing facilities by $925 million.

5. California hospital will scale back services to cut costs
Sonoma (Calif.) Valley Hospital, a 75-bed hospital that is part of the Sonoma Valley Hospital District, will close its obstetrics department as a cost-cutting move.
