Texas Health Resources' net income drops 45% in first nine months of 2018

Arlington-based Texas Health Resources saw revenue increase in the nine months ended Sept. 30, but the system ended the period with lower operating income and net income than in the first nine months of 2017, according to recently released financial documents.

Texas Health Resources reported operating revenue of $3.5 billion in the first nine months of 2018, up 2.2 percent from $3.43 billion in the same period a year earlier. But the system also saw higher expenses. Texas Health Resources' expenses grew 2.5 percent year over year, from $3.25 billion to $3.34 billion.

The system ended the first nine months of 2018 with operating income of $168.7 million, down from $174.5 million in the same period of last year.

With nonoperating gains factored in, Texas Health Resources ended the first nine months of this year with net income of $333.4 million, down 45 percent from $605.3 million in the same period a year prior.
