Tennessee hospital receives level 3 trauma accreditation

Lebanon, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital has been declared a provisional level 3 trauma center, The Tennessean reported July 25.

"We will be able to deal with the majority of trauma related orthopedic injuries," Andrew Hopper, MD, Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital trauma medical director, told the publication. "In addition, patients with significant abdominal injuries we can handle. We'll have shifts staffed by trauma-trained surgeons, some of whom are [Vanderbilt University Medical Center] trauma surgeons as well."

The hospital underwent its first state review in June and will be reviewed again next year to receive a permanent accreditation.

The provisional accreditation will allow the hospital to offer around-the-clock emergency and trauma care.
