Tenet to Build Teaching Hospital in El Paso

Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center at El Paso will build a new teaching hospital in western El Paso.

The 140-bed hospital, as well as a new medical office building, will be part of Tenet's Sierra Providence Health Network. The hospital will be named Sierra Providence West Medical Center.SPHN TTUHSC It will also serve as the teaching site for medical students, nursing students, residents and faculty from TTUHSC's Paul L. Foster School of Medicine. The El Paso Times pegged the cost of the project at around $120 million.

Including the new hospital, Tenet's investment in SPHN and the El Paso community will total $550 million during the past 10 years. "We are proud to expand our El Paso network to include educating the next generation of healthcare professionals, many of whom we hope will choose to remain in the region after their training," Tenet President and CEO Trevor Fetter said in a news release.

Construction on the new hospital will begin this year and is slated for completion in the fall of 2016.
