Task force offers tool to assess potential value-based care partners

The Health Care Transformation Task Force, a cohort of 40-plus healthcare payers, providers, purchasers and patient organizations, has released an interactive evaluation tool to help members assess potential value-based care partners.

The tool is available in an open-source format and available for free download from the task force website. Task force members may also use the tool to assess their own organization's readiness for such partnerships, which could include accountable care organizations and bundled payment models, or possibly global budgets or provider-insurer joint ventures.

"We regularly assess potential provider partners for advanced risk arrangements, and many characteristics important to the success of those partnerships aren't typical to a standard partnership valuation," Brigitte Nettesheim, president of joint venture market operations for Aetna and co-chair of the task force's Path to Transformation Advisory Group, said in a news release. "This tool helps to facilitate a more comprehensive assessment about a potential partner's demonstrated commitment to value and willingness to collaborate while identifying areas for deeper focus over time."

Task force Senior Director Clare Pierce-Wrobel told Becker's the tool was built around core competencies that cohort members found were indicative of attractive value-based care partners. Evaluators may adjust the weight of each competency based on its goals for a potential partner.

More information on the tool is available here.
