Supermarket customers raise $700K for Children's Miracle Network hospitals

Customers of Giant Food Stores donated $729,173 for Salt Lake City-based Children's Miracle Network hospitals during the supermarket chain's yearly Candles for Kids fundraising campaign, according to The Intelligencer.

The funds will be distributed to children's hospitals in the communities where Giant and its sister company Martin's Food Markets operate.

"Once again, Giant and Martin’s customers have helped give the gift of hope and healing to the children in our communities who need it most and we could not be more thankful for their generosity," John Ponnett, senior vice president of retail operations for Giant, said in a statement obtained by The Intelligencer.

Recipients of the funds include:

  • Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
  • Penn State Children's Hospital (Hershey, Pa.)
  • Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital (Danville, Pa.)
  • Children's National Medical Center (Washington, D.C.)
  • University of Virginia Children's Hospital (Charlottesville)
  • Johns Hopkins Children's Center (Baltimore)
  • Pittsburgh Children's Hospital
