Summa Health gets record $15M gift, renames tower after donors

Alia Paavola -

Akron, Ohio-based Summa Health received a record-breaking $15 million donation from a retired physician and his wife.

To honor the gift from Gary Williams, MD, and Pamela Williams, Summa Health has renamed its $220 million, seven-story tower that opened in 2019.

The Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Tower has 108 private patient rooms, 11 surgical suites, 17 labor and delivery rooms, a 22-bed neonatal intensive care unit and 67 prep and recovery rooms, according to the Beacon Journal.

"This truly meaningful and transformational gesture will have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the greater Akron community for years to come," said Cliff Deveny, MD, Summa Health's president and CEO. "We are proud to recognize Dr. and Mrs. Williams' generosity with naming our patient tower, the front door of the Akron Campus, in their honor. There, their name will forever shine in the Akron skyline as a testament to their legacy of caring for our community as the most generous benefactors in the history of Summa Health."
