Shuttered Tennessee hospital needs patients to pay up to cover $40k in past-due wages

Copper Basin Medical Center in Copperhill, Tenn., was behind on its payroll when it closed Oct. 1, and some employees are still waiting to be paid, according to WTVC.

After months of financial troubles, Copper Basin Medical Center suspended inpatient services May 9, and officials launched a GoFundMe page to help keep the hospital afloat. The hospital shut down after falling about 94 percent short of its $100,000 goal.

Some of the hospital's former employees are still waiting to get their paychecks. Hospital CFO Tim Henry recently told WTVC the hospital has a $5 million deficit, but officials hope to pay the employees, who are owed a combined $40,000, by the end of the year.

Mr. Henry is asking the hospital's past patients to pay their bills to ensure the employees get paid. "We need the public, if they owe the hospital a bill, that money is still due to us," he told WTVC.
