S&P raises Susquehanna Health's rating to 'A+'

Staff -

S&P Global Ratings has raised its long-term rating on Williamsport, Pa.-based Susquehanna Health's $150 million of series 2009 bonds to "A+" from "A-."

"The upgrade reflects Susquehanna's anticipated Oct. 1, 2016, affiliation with 'A+' rated University of Pittsburgh Medical Center," said S&P analyst Cynthia Keller. "Upon closing, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is expected to assume responsibility for Susquehanna's rated 2009 bonds as well as its other outstanding obligations, which we do not rate."

The outlook is stable, reflecting UPMC's excellent enterprise characteristics and the potential affiliation between the medical center and Susquehanna Health.
