While overall revenues were up, net income was actually lower. In 2010, net income for St. Louis-based hospitals was $612 million, down from $676 million in 2009, according to the report.
Hospitals with the highest revenues were Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Barnes-Jewish had revenue of $1.64 billion in 2010, up from $1.59 billion in 2009. Mercy had $813 million in revenue in 2010, up from $807 million the year before.
