Reduced cash flow prompts Alabama hospital to change EHR vendors

Jackson (Ala.) Medical Center, a 35-bed acute care facility, has implemented Evident's EHR solution, Thrive.

Evident's Thrive EHR solution replaces the hospital's current EHR system, officials said in a news release.

Jackson, a Gilliard Health Service subsidiary, attributed the EHR switch to reduced collections, citing a 75 percent drop under their previous EHR system. The hospital did not disclose the previous vendor's name.

"We went almost six months going from $600 [,000] to $700,000 a month in cash flow to $100 [,000] to $150,000 a month in cash flow," said Tom McLendon, COO of Gilliard Health Service. "A facility of our size would have difficulty maintaining hospital operations with this type of revenue shift."

The fact Jackson's sister location Evergreen (Ala.) Medical Center has been an Evident client for about 25 years also factored into the decision, the release states.
