Progress of state value-based reimbursement programs: a year-by-year breakdown

The number of U.S. states and territories with value-based reimbursement programs increased from one in 2008 to 48 in 2018, according to a study published by Change Healthcare.

The national study of state healthcare payment programs examined progress made in the last 18 months.

Researchers found that the number of states and territories implementing these programs, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, has increased sevenfold in the last five years.

2011 — 3

2012 — 4

2013 — 6

2014 — 16

2015 — 33

2016 — 40

2017 — 47

2018 — 48
