Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, Pa., has agreed to pay the federal government $373,547.54 to resolve Medicare billing violations the hospital self-disclosed to HHS' Office of Inspector General.
According to the Department of Justice, Charles Cole Memorial Hospital failed to bill under a particular modifier to reduce Medicare reimbursements for certain services provided by physician assistants and nurse practitioners between 2007 and 2017.
A second self-disclosure revealed the hospital failed to conduct required face-to-face encounters with some Medicare hospice patients from Jan. 1, 2001, through Feb. 1, 2014.
Charles Cole Memorial Hospital has taken corrective action and voluntarily disclosed the matters, according to the DOJ.
