Bellevue, Wash.-based Overlake Medial Center will soon begin building a $20 million cancer center, the first phase of a $242 million expansion plan called "Project futureCARE," according to The Seattle Times.

The cancer center is slated to open in the second quarter of 2017, Michael Marsh, CEO of OMC, told the Seattle Times. "What we're really doing is integrating all of our cancer services in one central location," he said.

Hospital officials have raised $10 million from donors so far, according to the report.

In addition to the cancer center, Project futureCARE will include a new east tower, a new childbirth and mother and baby care center, an expanded behavioral health unit and two new surgical suites. There will also be larger patient rooms, improved respiratory services and more laboratory space, according to the report. The project does not add new beds to the hospital, which currently houses 349 patient beds.

Plans for the expansion project were first filed with Bellevue city officials in 2005 and were finalized during the past 18 months, according to the report. The expansion is expected to be finished by 2023.
