Oklahoma hospital's Medicare funding at risk after state rejects correction plan

Ayla Ellison -

The Oklahoma State Department of Health has rejected Guymon, Okla.-based Memorial Hospital of Texas County's plan to correct deficiencies identified during on-site surveys last year. The hospital's Medicare and Medicaid provider agreements are slated to be terminated April 18 unless the issues are corrected, according to ABC 7.

In January, the department of health determined Memorial Hospital of Texas County was not in compliance with several Medicare and Medicaid rules after reviewing reports from hospital surveys conducted in October. Among the rules violated were those related to emergency services and medical screening exams.

Memorial Hospital of Texas County submitted a correction plan, which the state reviewed and rejected.

Memorial Hospital of Texas County will submit a new plan of correction for review. Hospital officials said the updated plan will be released to the public once it has been approved, according to the report.

Most hospitals take necessary steps to correct deficiencies before their Medicare and Medicaid contracts are terminated.
