No plans to close Chicago's Weiss Memorial, Pipeline Health CEO says

Alia Paavola -

Despite speculation from the community, Pipeline Health's CEO said he has no plans to close Chicago-based Weiss Memorial Hospital, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Los Angeles-based Pipeline Health acquired Weiss and two suburban hospitals in January.

Shortly after buying the three hospitals, Pipeline Health closed Westlake Hospital in west suburban Melrose Park, Ill., sparking an outcry from the community and speculation that Weiss would be closed next.

But Pipeline CEO Jim Edwards told community members at a meeting this week that the plan is to keep Weiss Memorial open long term.

"We bought this hospital. Our intention is to invest in this hospital and to keep this hospital open long term," Mr.  Edwards said, according to ABC 7.

Mr. Edwards said the company has invested millions in upgrades to the North Side hospital.
