New Hampshire Hospital Overcharges Patient 400% for Antibiotic Pills

A billing error at Portsmouth (N.H.) Regional Hospital led to a patient being charged nearly $2,000 for a bottle of antibiotic pills that cost $382.50, according to a Seacoast report.

When the patient received her bill from the hospital, she was charged $1,912.50 for a bottle of cefuroxime, and the total bill was $3,939.75, according to the report. Hospital officials cited it was a billing error and the situation would be rectified. The hospital also said it would ensure no other patients were similarly overcharged.
