Net Losses Continue at SunLink Health Systems

Atlanta-based SunLink Health Systems posted a net loss of $1.6 million in the second quarter of its 2012 fiscal year compared with a net loss of $1.8 million in the same period last year, according to a SunLink news release.

SunLink has now recorded losses in each of its first two quarters of FY 2012. In the first quarter ended Sept. 30, 2011, SunLink reported a loss of $318,000. SunLink also recorded negative earnings in the fourth quarter of FY 2011.


Net revenue in the three months ended Dec. 31, 2011, fell 8.5 percent from the same period in 2010 to $41.2 million. For the first six months of FY 2012, SunLink's net losses are more than $1.9 million. Net revenue in the first six months of FY 2012 dipped 2 percent from the first six months in FY 2011.

SunLink's healthcare facilities volume statistics varied in the first six months of FY 2012. Admissions were down 5.6 percent, and total surgeries were down 12.9 percent. However, equivalent admissions increased 2.9 percent from the first six months of FY 2011. Net revenue per equivalent admission in the first six months was $6,484, down from last year's figure of $6,983.
