NBA player helps wipe out $1M+ in past-due medical bills

Morgan Haefner -

The foundation of Trae Young, an NBA point guard from the Atlanta Hawks, helped wipe away more than $1 million in past-due medical bills for families in Atlanta, according to CNN.

Mr. Young donated $10,000 through his foundation, Trae Young Elite, to eliminate $1,059,186.39 in medical debt. Through RIP Medical Debt, Mr. Young's donation will be used to buy medical debt for pennies on the dollar to forgive it. On average, 570 people will see $1,858 in medical debt alleviated.

"The city of Atlanta has welcomed me with open arms," Mr. Young said. "Giving back to this community is extremely important to me. I hope these families can find a bit of relief knowing that their bills have been taken care of as we enter the New Year."
