The report, titled “Wisconsin Health Market Review 2017,” examined two annual surveys from the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
Here are three findings from the report.
1. Patient revenue reflected 10.5 percent of net income last year for Milwaukee-area hospitals.
2. Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care reported the highest net income in 2016 at $404.4 million. In comparison, St. Louis-based Ascension Health in Wisconsin saw net income of $96.6 million last year, and Waukesha, Wis.-based ProHealth Care reported net income of $10.9 million.
3. Mr. Baumgarten, the consultant, said, “From the data, the profitability of the hospitals in southeast Wisconsin has been very strong. The margins were the strongest in 2013, when the average margin for this group of hospitals in southeast Wisconsin was 12.3 percent. That’s not as high in 2016, but still the 10.5 percent as an average margin is a very strong result.”
