The FEMA funds will help pay for the demolition and rebuilding of four facilities, which were leveled in 2011 following a massive tornado. Mercy’s hospital in Joplin, St. John’s Regional Medical Center, has since been replaced by Mercy Hospital Joplin.
Shelly Hunter, CFO of Mercy Joplin/Kansas, told the Joplin Globe the FEMA funds will only cover demolition and emergency costs, and the system is expected to receive the money sometime between August and December.
