Mayo Clinic posts $205.3M operating surplus for Q3

Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic Health System reported a $205.3 million operating surplus for the third quarter of this year, up from the $191 million operating surplus the system posted for the third quarter of 2013.

Mayo reported $2.4 billion in revenue for the third quarter of 2014, which was a slight increase over the $2.38 billion the system reported for the same period of last year. The system's net medical service revenue increased to $2.03 billion in the third quarter of this year, up from $1.98 billion in third quarter of 2013. 

The health system's expenses also increased in the third quarter of this year to $2.19 billon, compared to $2.18 billion in the third quarter of 2013. Mayo's expenses related to supplies and services grew from $521.6 million in the third quarter of last year to $564.4 million in the third quarter of 2014.
