Majority of Americans support government relief for medical debt, survey finds

A new survey from YouGov found most Americans support government relief for medical debt.

The poll, released Sept. 8, found 66 percent of the respondents support government relief for medical debt, and 23 percent oppose. The percentage of respondents who said they support medical debt relief is higher than those who said they support assistance for student loans and other kinds of debt.

Democrats were more likely to support relief for medical debt, with 85 percent of Democrats and 56 percent of Republicans supporting the policy.

The poll was conducted from Aug. 29 to Sept. 5 and included 1,000 adult U.S. citizens interviewed online.
