Portland, Maine-based Northern Light Mercy Hospital received a $1 million donation for its relocation project from the heir of L.L Bean founder Leon L. Bean, according to The Times Record.
James Gorman, grandson of Mr. Bean, and his wife Maureen Gorman, donated to the hospital's campaign. The hospital is seeking financial donations as it closes and relocates its Northern Light facility in downtown Portland to a medical campus on Fore River Parkway.
The hospital got approval from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services in May to relocate its campus. The move will consolidate most of the hospital's operations at the new campus.
Northern Light intends to start construction on the $75 million hospital in early 2020. The hospital said its campaign is approaching $15 million in donations, according to the report.
