Kentucky Medicaid patients are now required to make copayments for some healthcare services, according to WPSD-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station in Paducah, Ky.
The new Medicaid co-pay policy took effect Jan. 1, state officials said.
Services that require a copay include:
- Preferred and nonpreferred generic drug ($1)
- Brand name drugs ($4)
- Specialty visits (chiropractor, dental, vision, podiatry) ($3)
- Office visit (with a physician, physician assistant, advanced registered nurse practitioner, certified pediatric and family nurse practitioner, nurse midwife or any behavioral health professional) ($3)
- Laboratory, diagnostic or X-ray service ($3)
- Outpatient surgery (ambulatory surgical center) ($4)
- Emergency room visit for a nonemergency service ($8)
Services exempt from copays include emergency and preventive services and some family planning services.
People exempt from copays include foster children, children enrolled in Medicaid and pregnant women, state officials said.
