Indianapolis-based Indiana University School of Medicine received a $25 million grant from Lilly Endowment to advance life sciences research and attract leading researchers to the state, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal.
The $25 million grant will be used to establish a biomedical research center, start a doctoral program in bioinformatics and employ 10 more biomedical scientists. Additionally, the money will help create the Indiana Collaborative Initiative for Talent Enrichment, which will be a collaborative network with various research facilities in the state.
Another goal of the donation is to transform the business district in Indianapolis to a research hub to attract talent.
"For Indiana to continue to grow as one of our nation's leading centers for life science research and innovation, it is critical that we continue to attract the top research talent to our state," Michael McRobbie, PhD, president of Indiana University, said in a statement, according to the report.
