Melrose Park, Ill.-based Westlake Hospital is open thanks to a new temporary restraining order issued May 3 by Cook County Circuit Court Judge Anna Loftus, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The judge issued the TRO in a new lawsuit filed by the village of Melrose Park on May 2. The lawsuit seeks review of the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board's decision on April 30 to allow Los Angeles-based Pipeline Health to close Westlake Hospital.
Both sides will return to court on May 7, which is the same day the TRO expires.
"We will continue fighting Pipeline's attempts to close Westlake Hospital," Melrose Park Mayor Ronald Serpico said in a statement to the Chicago Sun-Times. "We urge Pipeline to turn the hospital over to a receiver who can secure a buyer for Westlake Hospital."
Pipeline had started winding down services at 230-bed Westlake Hospital after the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board voted to approve its application to shut down the facility. The TRO halted that process, according to the report.
