Humana expecting below-average boost from Medicare Advantage payments

Ayla Ellison -

Health insurer Humana is expecting a 0.8 percent increase in funding from the final Medicare Advantage payment rates for 2016 that CMS recently announced, according to Reuters.

CMS announced Monday that Medicare Advantage payment rates will increase by 1.25 percent on average in 2016.

Humana was one of the top providers of Medicare Advantage plans last year, with 2.9 million enrollees. It trailed slightly behind the top provider, UnitedHealth Group, which had 3 million enrollees, according to Bloomberg.

Humana is expecting its increase to fall below the average of 1.25 percent due to the way the government compensates insurers for sicker-than-average patients, according to Reuters.
