Health insurer that left Iowa Medicaid program in 2017 still owes $1.4M, providers say

Kelly Gooch -

Iowa hospitals, nursing homes and providers of mental health services continue to battle an insurance company for money they say they're owed, according to The Des Moines Register.

Providers contend they're owed money from AmeriHealth Caritas, a managed care health plan that left the state's Medicaid program in November 2017.

According to state documents cited by the newspaper, the insurance company could owe providers as much as $1.4 million.

Providers have sued over the issue.

Meanwhile, an AmeriHealth spokesperson told the Register the company continues "to diligently work to resolve any outstanding items."

The company laid off 400 employees after leaving Iowa's Medicaid program.
