Female RCM leaders to know in 2017

Here are 11 female revenue cycle management leaders at hospitals and health systems who have established themselves as successful leaders within the revenue cycle space.

Note: This is not an exhaustive list. Leaders are presented in alphabetical order.

Tracy Berry. Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management at BJC HealthCare (St. Louis). Ms. Berry leads hospital revenue cycle operations for one of the nation's largest nonprofit healthcare organizations, presiding over a team of more than 500 employees. Areas under her purview include patient financial services, enterprise coding, charge description master and clinical documentation improvement support to hospital programs. Prior to joining BJC HealthCare, she was senior vice president of revenue management at Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health.

Jill Buathier. Vice President and Health System Chief Revenue Cycle Officer at Stanford Health Care (Palo Alto, Calif.). Ms. Buathier took on her position nearly one year ago which includes both hospital and professional revenue. Prior to that, she served as vice president of revenue cycle and vice president of revenue operations at Stanford Health Care, formerly known as Stanford Hospital and Clinics. She also previously served as associate vice president of revenue cycle at University of Toledo (Ohio) Medical Center. Ms. Buathier earned a master's degree in organizational management from Spring Arbor (Mich.) University and a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University in Columbus.

Katherine Cardwell. Assistant Vice President of Revenue Cycle at Ochsner Health System (New Orleans). Ms. Cardwell has served as assistant vice president of revenue cycle at Ochsner since 2011. She is responsible for several key functions within the revenue cycle including the areas focused on financial clearance, according to Ochsner.  Ms. Cardwell earned a bachelor's degree in healthcare management from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and a master's degree in healthcare administration from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Patti Consolver. Senior Director of Patient Access in System Services at Texas Health Resources (Arlington). Ms. Consolver has worked for Texas Health Resources since 1993. In her current role, she is responsible for the leadership team of the Strategic Revenue Services Access Intake Center for Pre-Services functions, including benefit verification, financial clearance and pre-registration. Prior to her promotion to system services in 2004, she was director of patient access at Texas Health Plano, an acute care hospital with more than 300 beds.

Dawn Davidson. Vice President of National Net Revenue Management at Ascension Healthcare (St. Louis). Ms. Davidson has served in her position at Ascension Healthcare since 2015. In her role, she organizes work of more than 100 employees across Ascension Healthcare ministries. Prior to joining Ascension Healthcare, Ms. Davidson was CFO and system executive finance and corporate controller at Ascension's St. Vincent Health in Indianapolis. She also previously served as audit senior manager at Ernst & Young.

Laura Holt. Director of Revenue Cycle Management for St. Luke's Hospital (Chesterfield, Mo.). Ms. Holt has more than three decades of revenue cycle management experience and has spent her entire career at St. Luke's Hospital. During her tenure at St. Luke's Hospital, she helped develop the organization's pricing transparency tool on its website. She will also play a key role as a project leader for St. Luke's revenue cycle system conversion to Cerner. Recently, Ms. Holt took over responsibility of revenue cycle management for St. Luke's Medical Group.

Sarah Knodel. System Vice President of Revenue Cycle at Baylor Scott & White Health (Dallas). Ms. Knodel is responsible for the strategic management and direction of the Baylor Scott & White Health revenue cycle. Previously, she worked for Stockamp & Associates, now Huron Consulting Group, where she focused on revenue cycle improvement initiatives for large, multi-facility acute care hospital systems. Ms. Knodel earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from The University of Texas at Austin - Red McCombs School of Business.

Michele Napier. Chief Revenue Officer at Orlando (Fla.) Health. Ms. Napier joined Orlando Health as chief revenue officer in January 2017. Prior to coming to Orlando Health, she was senior vice president and chief revenue officer at Cincinnati-based Mercy Health, formerly Catholic Health Partners. Ms. Napier earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Miami School of Business Administration in Coral Gables, Fla.

Gerilynn Sevenikar. Vice President of Hospital Revenue Cycle at Sharp HealthCare (San Diego). Ms. Sevenikar has about four decades of experience in healthcare revenue cycle and financial management. She currently serves as vice president of hospital revenue cycle at Sharp HealthCare, a fully integrated healthcare delivery system with 2,110 licensed acute care beds. At Sharp HealthCare, she provides executive oversight for all hospital access service and business office functions, centralized billing and collections for all payer classifications, chargemaster, health information management and enterprise customer service.

Patrice Taleff. Vice President of Revenue Cycle at PinnacleHealth System (Harrisburg, Pa.). Ms. Taleff has worked for PinnacleHealth System for more than two decades. Prior to her current role, she held a number of positions within the system, including vice president of financial operations, director of patient business services, director of payer relations and manager of managerial accounting. Previously, she worked for Capital Blue Cross. Ms. Taleff earned a bachelor's degree in business administration with a major in accounting from Shippensburg (Pa.) University and a master's degree in business administration in healthcare management systems from DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.  

April York. Senior Director of Patient Finance at Novant Health (Winston-Salem, N.C.). In her role, Ms. York is responsible for revenue cycle processes for 12 acute care facilities, two hospice agencies and multiple imaging and surgical centers. She oversees claims processing, payment posting/credit balance management, third-party follow-up, patient accounts receivable management, adjustment and denial processing, managed care payment compliance, self pay ad vendor management and other support services.
