Fairview’s financially struggling St. Joseph’s Hospital could face partial or full closure in two years without a turnaround, hospital leaders said. The hospital, which has 105 beds for mental health and substance misuse treatment and sees about 220 patients a day, has posted annual operating losses each year for the past 10 years.
Fairview issued a request March 9 for partners to help save the hospital, according to the Star Tribune. Hospital leaders believe a partnership could help the hospital transform into a more competitive provider of inpatient and outpatient mental health services.
As a system, Fairview lost $96 million in 2019 and anticipates losses this year, according to the report.
