The D.C. Council unanimously voted in favor of legislation Tuesday aimed at protecting preventive women's health coverage, according to The Washington Post.
Here are three things to know about the legislation.
1. The legislation comes amid Republican efforts to dismantle the ACA, which currently includes instruction for coverage of preventive women's health services.
2. Under D.C.'s Defending Access to Women's Health Care Services Amendment Act of 2017, insurers must cover preventive women's health services without charging extra via increased copays or deductibles, according to the report. This applies to services such as contraception, breast cancer screening and counseling for sexually transmitted infections.
3. Tuesday's vote is not the final say on the legislation. A second and final vote on the bill is slated for Jan. 9, reports The Washington Post.
