Dartmouth Health freezes hiring, plans job reviews

Lebanon, N.H.-based Dartmouth Health is freezing hiring and reviewing all vacant jobs at its flagship hospital and clinics in an effort to close a $120 million budget gap, the Valley News reported Jan. 21.

Dartmouth Health has implemented performance improvement plans and will conduct hiring reviews for all open positions at its 396-bed Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and affiliated clinics by its position control review and clinical workforce committees. It aims to close the $120 million budget gap by the end of September.

The health system will continue recruiting for certain clinical jobs, which it categorizes as "Tier 1" and "essential to keeping patients safe and providing high-quality care."

Dartmouth Health ended the first quarter of its current fiscal year Sept. 30 with a $41.4 million loss on a nearly $770 million operating budget, the Valley News reports.

The academic health system, which employs about 12,000 people, is New Hampshire's largest private employer.
