Coventry Health Care to Purchase Children’s Mercy’s Medicaid Plan

Coventry Health Care, a national managed healthcare company based in Bethesda, Md., has signed a definitive agreement to purchase a Medicaid health plan operated by Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., according to a Coventry news release.

The Medicaid health plan, Children’s Mercy’s Family Health Partners, has approximately 210,000 total Medicaid members with annual revenue of more than $450 million. In addition to the acquisition, Coventry and Children’s Mercy Hospital have entered into a long-term provider relationship as part of the definitive agreement.

The parties expect to close the deal in the first quarter of 2012, pending regulatory and other approvals. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
